About Us
Welcome Office FVG is the regional one-stop-shop dedicated to international students and researchers
It offers free information and personalized support on mobility-related issues through a compelling informative website and of on-site assistance provided by two helpdesks in Trieste and Udine.
The Office works together with EURAXESS centre in Trieste for researchers career development (PhD and PostDoc) to organise training courses, workshops on EU funds and opportunities, etc.
Short and long-term guests and staff members of the Institutions of the regional Scientific and Innovation System as well as those of the Protocollo d’ Intesa agreement signed with Trieste municipality may rely on Welcome Office FVG support services.
Welcome Office FVG offers a whole range of integrated facilities with a view to improving the stay and relocation in Friuli Venezia Giulia, and to further enhance the capacity of research institutions, universities, conservatories located in the region to attract qualified human resources.
This integrated model goes to increase support services already provided by each institution.
Welcome Office FVG has been set up in 2010 by Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Government in the framework of the Scientific and Innovation system – SiS FVG to promote the internationalisation of the regional system. Welcome Office FVG is managed by Area Science Park.

SISSA
SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies, was founded in 1978 and is a scientific center of excellence within the national and international academic scene. Located in Italy, in the city of Trieste, it features 71 professors, about 133 post-docs, 292 PhD students and 119 technical administrative staff. Situated on the scenic Karst upland, the School is surrounded by a 25 acre park, and offers a stunning view of the Gulf of Trieste. The three main research areas of SISSA are: Physics, Neuroscience and Mathematics.
All the scientific work carried out by SISSA researchers is published regularly in leading international journals with a high impact factor, and frequently in the most prestigious scientific journals such as Nature and Science. The School has also drawn up over 100 collaboration agreements with the world’s leading schools and research institutes.
The quality level of the research is further confirmed by the fact that within the competitive field of European funding schemes SISSA holds the top position among Italian scientific institutes in terms of research grants obtained in relation to the number of researchers and professors. Such leadership should also be seen in terms of SISSA’s ability to obtain funding, both from the private and public sectors.

Founded in 1924, the University of Trieste (UniTS) is a medium-sized university with almost 18,000 students, 700 faculty staff and 700 administrative staff. It counts 10 departments, with over 70 degree programmes at the bachelor and master level, and about 20 PhD programmes, as well as short vocational masters, advanced masters and specialisation programmes. The University provides numerous cultural and professional opportunities in all disciplines.
The main University campus is located in Trieste (Piazzale Europa ) on a high point overlooking the city. The historic building dates back to 1924. Some Departments are located in the city. Since 1989 the University has a campus also in Gorizia and since 1991in Pordenone.
International students, both degree seeking and mobility students, as well as PhD students and researchers are welcome at the University of Trieste.
